Dental Implants are typically recommended for people who are missing one or more teeth. During dental implant surgery, the dental implant, a metal post, is placed into the jawbone to replace the root of the tooth.
Dental Abutment
A dental abutment is screwed into the dental implant and used as a support for the crown. After a patient has implant surgery, once the implants are firmly in place and the surrounding gum tissue is strong, they can come to our office where Dr. Cariens will be able to restore the dental implant with a custom abutment, and then a porcelain crown. When the process is completed, the "new" tooth is often hard to tell apart from a patient's original teeth.
