Meet Dr. Cariens

Dr. Michael Cariens has been practicing general dentistry for more than 30 years. He grew up in the town of Spartanburg, S.C. His interest in dentistry began while studying engineering at Clemson University. He completed his education at Clemson in 1981 and went on to earn a doctorate of Dental Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina in 1985. After practicing dentistry for two years in his hometown of Spartanburg, in 1987 he opened his private practice at his current location in Lexington, S.C.

Dr. Cariens takes the time to provide patients with the best care possible in family and cosmetic dentistry. He has completed extensive training in cosmetic dentistry at Baylor University and the Las Vegas Institute. He is trained in many aspects of dentistry including tooth colored restorations, crowns, bridges, and removable dentures. Dr. Cariens has a special interest and enjoyment in creating beautiful smiles with porcelain veneers and Invisalign. He has also helped many patients suffering from sleep apnea. With over 30 years’ experience and serving the Lexington community the majority of those years; he considers his patients a part of his extended family and those relationships are a valuable part of the culture of his office. When you enter his office you will feel right at home and you will sense a caring, happy, and comfortable environment. Not only will you feel welcome in his office, you will also learn that he uses his knowledge of engineering with the study of dentistry to create your most beautiful smile. When Dr. Cariens is not seeing patients in the office, you can find him taking courses and learning extra training to enhance his modern dentistry.

Outside the office, he enjoys spending time on Lake Murray. He also enjoys snow skiing and scuba diving. Traveling with his wife, Sherry, and spending time with his family is on his list of important and fun things to do. It is not unusual to find him cheering on the Clemson Tigers or the Carolina Panthers football teams at every available opportunity. Dr. and Mrs. Cariens have been active members of Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church for many years. Together they have raised four children of whom they are very proud.
